What’s included

Clubs provided

No equipment needed for your first lessons. Turn up in comfortable shoes and Michael sorts the rest.

A real plan, not a lucky dip

Lesson one: grip, setup, contact. Lessons two and three: strike and swing plane. Then refinement — you always know what's next.

Indoors on TrackMan

San Francisco weather doesn't get a vote. Beginner lessons run in the TrackMan bays inside the clubhouse.

Patient is the word students use

It comes up in review after review. Michael has taught first-timers for 24 years and nothing you do will surprise him.

Beginner Golf Lessons in San Francisco

Most people who quit golf quit in the first month, because they were handed a driver and told to swing. Michael's beginner plan does the opposite. The first lesson is grip, setup and making contact — nothing else. Lessons two and three cover where the club meets the ground, swing plane, and what your hands and shoulders are doing. From there it's refinement.

You don't need equipment to start. Michael keeps clubs and balls you can borrow, and most beginner work happens on TrackMan inside the Lincoln Park clubhouse, which means the weather never cancels your lesson and you can see exactly what the ball did.

Adults picking the game up for work or friends, complete beginners who've always fancied a go, and juniors starting out are all welcome. Nobody is watching, nobody expects you to be good, and the whole point is that it stays enjoyable.

Questions

Beginner lessons: common questions

I've genuinely never played. Is that a problem?
Not at all — it's often easier. Starting without habits to unlearn means we can build the grip and setup properly from the first swing. A good share of Michael's students arrive having never held a club.
Do I need to buy clubs before my first lesson?
No. Michael keeps clubs and balls you can borrow, so don't spend anything until you know you enjoy it. Just wear stable shoes you can swing in and mention when you book that you'll need clubs.
How many lessons before I can play a round?
Most beginners are comfortable getting round a short course after a handful of lessons. Michael's beginner plan covers the fundamentals in the first three sessions and builds from there, and Lincoln Park itself is a friendly course to play your first round on.
Are beginner lessons one-on-one or in a group?
Both work. One-on-one gets you further faster, but starting alongside a friend or partner takes the pressure off and costs less per person. Say which you'd prefer when you get in touch.
